About

The MFAH has a large collection of works on paper and photographs housed in storage areas adjacent to the Anne Wilkes Tucker Photography Study Center. These works include objects from the Asian, Latin American, and Modern and Contemporary collections as well as from the Sarah Campbell Blaffer Foundation. At any moment, the Museum exhibits only a small portion of its holdings.

In order to make more of the entire collection available to interested parties, the MFAH included a study center in the construction plans for the Audrey Jones Beck Building, which opened in 2000. Located on the mezzanine level, the Anne Wilkes Tucker Photography Study Center is a unique, multi-use site that houses the storage areas for these objects in secure, climate-controlled facilities. The study center is used by staff, visiting curators and scholars, school groups (high school to college), collectors, Museum members, and the general public to enjoy, first-hand, works from these extensive collections. The facilities are also used by the MFAH curatorial departments for meetings and lectures, and as a teaching tool for residents of Houston’s communities.
