Objectives
Through publishing, the MFAH places the best of its art collections in the mainstream of art-historical education; gives voice to intellectually engaging authors; builds a community of readers who cherish impeccably produced art books; and furthers the Museum’s mission by expanding the institution’s reach beyond its walls.

As the Museum’s publisher, the MFAH Publications Department has put Houston on the map as a global center for important research and scholarship. The art books that bear the MFAH imprint earn numerous distinctions as groundbreaking, often definitive, scholarly publications.
Highlights of MFAH Research
MFAH publications are rooted in the activities of the Museum’s curators. Whether exploring an aspect of the rich permanent collection or preparing for a traveling exhibition, the curators are always discovering new ways to look at artists, works, styles, and cultural traditions.
The publications department also works closely with the Museum’s International Center for the Arts of the Americas (ICAA) to present new findings about the art of Latin, Central, and South America. Highlights include Building on a Construct: The Adolpho Leirner Collection of Brazilian Constructive Art at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; Hélio Oiticica: The Body of Color; and Documents of 20th-Century Latin American and Latino Art.
