MFAH Names Toni Wood as Head of Marketing and Sales
Wood will lead newly expanded MFAH marketing function to increase community engagement
HOUSTON—FEBRUARY 24, 2022—The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, today announced that Toni Wood, Vice President of Marketing and Communications for the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, has been named Head of Marketing and Sales for the MFAH, a newly expanded role. Wood will be responsible for managing the MFAH marketing functions across the institution, leading the museum’s brand, advertising, and digital- and social-media strategies, while supporting overall sales, membership, and audience-building initiatives. She joins the MFAH in April.
“We have seen with the opening of the Nancy and Rich Kinder Building that Houston has embraced all that the expanded MFAH campus can provide,” commented Gary Tinterow, Director, Margaret Alkek Williams Chair, of the MFAH. “The continued engagement of new audiences is critically important not only to this museum, but to the vitality of the community. I am delighted to welcome Toni Wood to the MFAH and to Houston, where her longstanding expertise in museums and in community engagement with the arts will serve to enhance all that we do for our visitors and for the city.”
At the Nelson-Atkins, during Wood’s tenure in marketing and communications, attendance doubled, reaching a high of 600,000 in 2019, pre-pandemic. This past year, Wood worked with the Nelson-Atkins leadership team to shape a new strategic plan that gives priority to inclusion, diversity, and community involvement. “I am struck by the remarkable achievements at the MFAH and I am deeply honored to join the museum,” Wood said. “I am impressed with the stellar collection, new galleries, and strong leadership, and I look forward to championing what the MFAH offers to Houston and the nation.”
Wood received a Bachelor of Science in Journalism from the University of Kansas. A longtime, active volunteer in the Kansas City community, her affiliations have included the ArtsKC Marketing Committee; the Art Museum Marketing Association; the Kansas City Arts Marketing Fab Five; the Greater Kansas City Attractions Association; and Arts in Prison.
