Christopher Rothko joins Gary Tinterow for “Conversations with the Director” on Monday, November 16, 2015

What
On Monday, November 16, 2015, Christopher Rothko—author, psychologist, and son of the artist Mark Rothko—joins Gary Tinterow, director of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, for the next discussion in the ongoing “Conversations with the Director” series.

Christopher Rothko, a New York native, oversees the Rothko family collections and serves as chairman of the board of the Rothko Chapel in Houston. In addition to maintaining the Rothko archives, he writes, lectures, supports researching scholars and curators, organizes exhibitions, and occasionally curates. Rothko returns to Houston this fall to discuss his new book, Mark Rothko: From the Inside Out, a comprehensive volume of essays providing his unique, “inside-out” perspective on his father’s work.

The program coincides with Mark Rothko: A Retrospective, on view now through January 24, 2016, at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. The exhibition, which presents more than 60 masterworks by abstract expressionist Mark Rothko, traces the preeminent artist’s full career arc and is the largest showing of his work in the United States since 1998.

“Conversations with the Director” is a series of talks with Tinterow, who engages an eclectic roster of guests in one-on-one conversations about the arts. Following the program, Rothko will sign copies of Mark Rothko: From the Inside Out, which will be available for purchase.
