The 21st Annual Eye on Houston: High School Documentary Photography exhibition opens today at the MFAH


What
Today, January 12, 2016, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, opens the annual Eye on Houston: High School Documentary Photography. The exhibition is a collaboration between the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and area high schools to document and celebrate Houston’s diverse neighborhoods. Eye on Houston will remain on view through Sunday, May 1, 2016.

Eye on Houston invites students to offer a glimpse into their daily lives, experiences, and personal stories. This year, the exhibition expands to include a greater number of Houston communities. These areas are showcased through images by 37 students from Jack Yates, Westside, Bellaire, Sam Houston, and Cesar E. Chavez high schools, along with students from Through The Lens, a district-wide afterschool program focusing on photography as a profession.

Sixty-seven photographs by junior and senior students were chosen for this year’s exhibition, with works by the following artists: Leila Al-Haj, Michelle Alva, Asia Youngs Bailey, Blanca Barrios, Janesha Bass, Tamara Brown, Henna Calderon, Emilio Carlock, Elena Carrasco, Donavin Charles, Tamirah Collins, Caitlin Connelly, Gillian Connelly, Ana Cortez, Daniel Cota, Caroline Craft, Jenna Dewji, Yaaresi Garcia, Emily Goll-Broyles, Allie Henderson, Melissa Henriquez, George Jordan, Janet Juarez, Maya Kanani, Hannah Kazmouz, Ella Grace Legge, Mary Lenz, Ruth Lopez, Antonio Olivares, Mackenzie Parsons, Karina Perez, Beata Purvina, Emily Rafferty, Karina Ramirez, Brandon Ramos, Anneleise Sebesta, Amber Wright, and Andrew Wu.

Admission
Admission is free with general Museum admission. Admission to the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, is $15 for adults, $10 for seniors and military members, $7.50 for students, and free for children 12 and under. General admission is always free for MFAH members, and free for the general public on Thursdays, courtesy of Shell.
