The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, is the only U.S. venue for an ambitious exhibition showcasing the work of French Post-Impressionist artist Paul Gauguin (1848–1903).

Gauguin in the World offers new perspectives on Gauguin’s life and work; his artistic networks and influences; and his contemporary legacies, both artistic and historical. The exhibition features more than 150 of Gauguin’s paintings, sculptures, prints, and drawings.

Gauguin in the World unfolds across six galleries, as the arc of the artist’s career spans his Impressionist beginnings in Paris through final years, with half of the exhibition devoted to Gauguin’s work in Tahiti and the Marquesas Islands.

► Publication
The illustrated exhibition catalogue is available through the MFA Shop (713.639.7360) and the Museum’s Hirsch Library (713.639.7325).

► Culinary Canvas
Stop by Le Jardinier at MFAH for a delectable treat or autumn cocktail when you visit the exhibition Wednesday through Friday. Inspired by Gauguin’s vibrant color palette, the “Bright Hibiscus” dessert combines rich layers of lemon and biscuit while the “Ictus Sketch” balances fig, melon, and cognac for a sultry sipper inspired by the artist’s travels.
