Rediscovering a Velázquez: The Attribution of “Kitchen Maid” December 18, 2018

One of the Museum’s biggest announcements of 2018 involves a 17th-century painting that, for years, was on view at Rienzi with a label that read “In the style of Diego Velázquez.” After extensive conservation and research, Zahira Bomford, senior conservator of paintings, concluded that Kitchen Maid is attributable to the Spanish master himself.
