A Veterans Day Performance “In Flanders Fields” November 11, 2020
Rienzi, the MFAH house museum for European decorative arts, partnered with the University of Houston’s Moores School of Music for a performance to honor Veterans Day.
“In Flanders Fields” combines music with the inspirational words of John McCrae. Written during World War I, his poem “In Flanders Fields” led to the red poppy becoming a worldwide symbol of remembrance for Veterans Day.
This special performance features current and past Moores School of Music students playing music by Maurice Ravel as well as the world premiere of a new work by J.E. Hernández.
Education programs at Rienzi receive generous funding from the Sterling-Turner Foundation; Alkek and Williams Foundation; Carroll Sterling and Harris Masterson III Endowment; Isla Carroll Turner Friendship Trust; and the Caroline Wiess Law Endowment for Rienzi.
