Close-Up: Francis Bacon’s Final Work April 16, 2020

Francis Bacon: Late Paintings, organized by the Centre Pompidou in Paris, is the first in-depth museum look at the extraordinary accomplishments of Francis Bacon’s final years.

Bacon (1909–1992) was a leading figure in 20th-century British art: celebrated, scandalous, and profoundly influential. His coming of age was bracketed by two world wars, and he found both beauty and tragedy in the human form.

The exhibition Francis Bacon: Late Paintings remains at the MFAH until the Museum reopens. In the meantime, you can hear from MFAH Director Gary Tinterow as he discusses Bacon’s final work, Study of a Bull (1991), in the audio excerpt below.
